Aims of Study: Pattern of Hepatic trauma in our setup.
Study Design: Prospective observational study:
Place and Duration: Two years study from January 2009 to December 2011 was conducted in Peoples Medical College Hospital Nawabshah.
Patients and methods: The study comprises 50 patients all were admitted from COD (Casualty out Patients Department) of hospital. The patients were evaluated fully after history, clinical examination and specific investigation of X-ray abdomen supine and erect posture, ultra sound of Abdomen, contrast C.T and D.P.L Diagnostic Peritoneal Lavage and General assessment. All Patients of Hepatic trauma included out of 50 patients 45 (90%) Patients are Underwent surgery Laparotomy. and 5 pts treated conservatively.
Result: In this study of 50 patients of Hepatic trauma 35 (70%) pts were males and 15 (30%) pts were Females the maximum number of patients were in age group 15 to 55 years in 27 (54%) Patients had fire arm, 8 (16%) pts were stab injury and 15 (30%) patients were Blunt Trauma. 30 (60%) pts were injured grade 1, 2, and 3. 15 (30%) pts were injured grade 4. 5 (10%) pts were injured grade 5. 25 (50%) patients were treated simple repair. 15 (30%) pts were treated multiple repair with sponge stone. 5 (10%) patients were treated multiple repair with excision of hepatic tissue along with packing. 5 (10%) pts were treated conservatively.
Conclusion: Hepatic trauma is a commonest injuries all over the world. patients need surgical intervention. Pts can die due to haemorrhage, hypothermia, metabolic acidosis and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
