BACKGROUND: Professional satisfaction among physicians has been found to be associated with better patient care and satisfaction. Previous studies in our setting have not focused on the satisfaction level of post-graduate trainees.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To assess the level of professional satisfaction among postgraduate trainees of civil hospital Karachi and evaluate the various factors leading to dissatisfaction.

METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out at Civil Hospital Karachi from April 2010 to June 2010 over a period of two months. A questionnaire was developed and a total of two hundred post-graduate FCPS trainees participated by random sampling. The participants included trainees of all years working in various departments of Civil Hospital Karachi. Data was entered in SPSS version 17.0 and results were analyzed.
